Borrowing Library Materials
The California State Library loans books, magazines, government publications, newspapers on microfilm, and other materials to the public through the interlibrary loan program. Please contact your local public, academic, or workplace library to request an interlibrary loan. Interlibrary Loan departments should review our Interlibrary Loan instructions.
State employees may borrow most materials directly from the California State Library.
You can locate the author, title, and call number of items in the California State Library collections in the Online Catalogs.
Rare materials, fragile items, materials in special collections such as photographs and prints, single-copy California State documents, and reference items are not loaned and must be viewed in the Library.
Braille and cassette books, magazines and playback equipment are available for loan to Californians unable to read conventional print due to a visual or physical disability.
